If you've searched "si domain" lately, you're not alone. Interest in the .si domain has exploded in the past few weeks. Here's what happened and what it means, in plain language.
Where .si comes from
.si is Slovenia's domain: it has existed since 1992, it's run by the national registry, Register.si, and for most of its life it was used quietly by Slovenian businesses. Who manages it, who can register one and how Google treats it are covered on our page what country is .si.
.si domain news: why everyone is talking about it
On 29 September 2026, President Trump signed an executive order telling US federal agencies to stop saying "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI." Instead, they must say "Super Intelligence" and "SI."
People quickly noticed that "SI" is also Slovenia's domain ending. Investors and AI startups rushed to grab .si domain names:
- After the "super intelligence" remarks at the UN, more .si domains were registered in a single day than .ai domains.
- September brought over 10,000 new .si registrations, against roughly 1,000 in a normal month.
- Total .si domains crossed 200,000 for the first time ever.

Is "SI" officially replacing "AI"? What's confirmed and what's not

Confirmed: the executive order is signed and in effect. US government agencies must now use "SI" on their websites, in press releases, and in reports.
Not confirmed: US laws passed by Congress still say "artificial intelligence." The White House has 60 days to propose a legal definition of "Super Intelligence," and then Congress has to decide whether to pass it.
- If Congress passes it, "SI" becomes much more permanent, and .si domains get a lot stronger.
- If Congress doesn't, "SI" stays limited to government communication, and any future president could cancel the order.
Companies, media, and other countries don't have to switch at all. Whether "SI" catches on everywhere is still an open question. One early sign: on 4 October 2026, Elon Musk posted "No more AI. SI." on X. Read what Musk's post means for .si domains.
Is .si the new .ai?
Not yet. There are about 1.28 million .ai domains, compared with around 200,000 .si domains, and the tech world still says "AI" every day.
But a .si domain name has real advantages:
- It's cheap to register.
- Anyone in the world can own one.
- Many short, strong names are still available, unlike on .ai.

Registering or buying a .si domain
Anyone can register a new .si for about $12 a year, with no need to live in Slovenia, and a name that's already taken can still be bought from its owner through escrow. Avoid any name that copies a company's trademark. Our guide on how to buy a .si domain covers the rules, registrar prices and each step.
Should you buy a .si domain?
Treat it like any investment: a smart, small bet, not your life savings. A .si domain makes sense if:
- your brand or product name ends in "si"
- you're building in AI and want a short, matching name
- you want to protect your brand before someone else grabs it
